FIFA president Infantino coming to Dhaka on Wednesday
FIFA President Giovanni Vincenzo Gianni Infantino is coming to Dhaka on Wednesday evening as part of his Asia tour. Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) president Kazi M Salahuddin briefed the media men about the visit in a press conference on Saturday at the BFF House.
It is the very first tour to Asia by Gianni Infantino after he got elected the FIFA boss in the FIFA Extraordinary Congress on 26th February 2016. This tour of FIFA president is titled as a 'Goodwill tour to Asia' and during the visits, the Swiss-Italian football administrator will try to understand the conditions of football in the region. He is leading a five-member delegation that will go to Mongolia before heading to Dhaka.
In Dhaka, the FIFA president will pay a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday at 10:00am. Attending a few programmes, the delegation will leave for Laos on Thursday evening.
It will be the fourth tour to Dhaka of any of the FIFA presidents. Before that, the then FIFA president Dr Joo Jean-Marie Faustin Godefroid de Havelange visited Dhaka in 1980. Afterwards, one of the long-term president of FIFA Joseph Sepp Blatter visited the capital of Bangladesh twice. He first came in Dhaka in 2006 and second time in 2012. During his first visit, Blatter inaugurated the newly built BFF House in Motijheel. He inaugurated the Artificial turf adjoined the BFF House during his second visit in the country. Blatter was called a true friend of football in Bangladesh as he supported BFF in constructing the BFF House and getting the Astro Turf.
Now, current FIFA President Gianni Infantino's tour to Dhaka was not surprising as BFF told the media months ago that he might come in Dhaka during his Asia tour. But, the time was not fixed then.
