Arrest warrant against Dr Yunus
A labour court on Wednesday issued warrant to arrest Gramen Bank founder Dr Muhammad Yunus over sacking of three employees of Grameen Communications, IT wing of Grameen Bank.
Dhaka Third Labour Court chairman Rohibul Islam passed the order as Yunus failed to appear before court following its summon issued on July 10, court clerk Nuruzzaman said.
The court on July 10 had summoned Muhammad Yunus, Managing Director of Grameen Communi-cations Naznin Sultana and its deputy general manager Khandaker Abu Abedin over sacking those employees for forming union at their workplace.
"We filed the cases for sacking us for forming union at our workplace. As he failed to appear before court and comply with its order, the court has issued warrant to arrest him," one of the complainants Abdus Salam said.
"We had filed three separate cases for transferring us as part of harassment, making threats, and subsequently sacking for forming union. The court had summoned them to give their explanations," Emranul Haque, one of the complainant, said earlier.
Abdus Salam, Shah Alam and Emranul Haque, junior MIS Officers of Grameen Communications, were sacked in June, 2019, for taking initiative and forming trade union at their workplace. -BSS
