15 fishermen injured in pirate attack


At least 15 fishermen have been injured in an attack by pirates in the Meghna river in Lalmohan upazila of Bhola district.

The incident took place in Betua area in the river on Tuesday night. 

The injured alleged that 8-10 pirates, boarding in two trawlers, chased their fishing trawler and threw stones at them indiscriminately, leaving them injured.

The pirates carried out the attack to snatch away their fishing nets and the trawler, the fishermen also alleged.

Of the injured, four were admitted to Lalmohan Upazila Health Complex, said Hardinge union Parishad chairman Abul Kashem Mia.

Meanwhile, Lalmohan Police Station officer in-charge Mir Khairul Kabir said necessary actions will be taken if police receive written complaint.
