Police on Sunday launched drives at four sporting clubs --Arambagh Krira Sangha, Mohammedan Sporting Club, Dilkusha Sporting Club and Victoria Sporting Club- in Dhaka’s Motijheel area.

Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Motijheel Division) Anwar Hossain said they raided the clubs after another from around 3.00 pm.

During the drives that continued till 4:45pm, they recovered various instruments for playing gambling, Tk 1 lakh and some empty bottles of liquor, he said.

They had been unaware of any casino in the clubs, Anwar said, adding that they conducted the drives based on a tip-off.

BSS adds: Police seized different equipment of Casino from there, but none could be arrested from the spots, additional deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Motijheel zone) Shiblee Nomansaid, adding that suspects escaped the drives
sensing the presence of the law enforcers.

He said legal actions will be taken against the people involved in running Casino and gambling in the country.

Police locked three clubs -- Arambagh Krira Sangha, Dilkusha Sporting Club and Victoria Sporting Club – after concluding the drives.

Law enforcers have started hunting down the dens of gambling and drugs across the country.

On September 18, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) raided at least five clubs in Dhaka city and arrested Jubo League leader Khaled Mahmud Bhuiyan from his Gulshan residence for allegedly running a ‘Casino’ at a football club in Fakirerpool.

As part of its continuous drives in Casinos, RAB on Friday also arrested Jubo League central committee leader SM Golam Kibria Shamim and seized around Tk 1.80 crore and Fixed Deposit Receipt (FDR) worth Tk 165 crore from his
office in the city’s Niketan area.
