August 17 bomb blasts: 5 JMB men jailed for 12 yrs

A Dhaka court on Sunday convicted five members of the banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) and sentenced them to 12 years rigorous imprisonment in a case filed over simultaneous bomb blasts throughout the country on August 17, 2005.
Dhaka Metropolitan Special Tribunal-2 Judge Md Al Mamun handed down the verdict.
The convicts are Abdullah Al Suhaile, Md Abdur Rahman Masud, Md Nurul Islam alias Ujjal, Habibur Rahman Habib and Md Musa alias Mustafizur Rahman.
The court also fined them Tk 30,000 each, in default, to suffer six months more in jail.
According to the case statement, the accused blasted bombs simultaneously in 63 districts of the country on August 17, 2005.
In Dhaka, the blast took place near Khilkhet over bridge on August 17, 2005.
Khilkhet Police Station ASI Md Kawsar Alam filed the case in this connection.
