CHATTOGRAM Sept 21: The central committee of the ruling Awami League has taken a step to invigorate the local units of Chattogram district North, South and City before the central Council announced to be held in December.
In this connection, all ward units of the Chattogram City Corporations and the Thana units of Chattogram district North and South will be reconstituted by October next.
The district units of Chattogram City, North and South will be reformed by November next.
The central leaders of Awami League held a meeting with the Presidents and General Secretaries of Chattogram City, North and South units at the Political offices of the Prime Minister at Dhanmandi on Friday.
Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim presided over the meeting attended by AL Presidium members, Engr Mosharraf Hussain MP, Matiya Chowdhury MP, Abdul Matin Khasru MP, Joint Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif and all other leaders of Chattogram district.
The meeting directed the local leaders to organize conferences of ward and Thana units by October next and the district conferences      by November next.
The meeting further decided to scrap Banshkhali and Boalkhali Upazila committees.
It may be mentioned that the annual conference of the district units was scheduled to be held every three years as per the constitution of the party.
But the annual conference of Chattogram district North and the City units were held in 2005 while the South unit was held in 2014 last.
As a result, the date of all three district units of Chattogram AL had expired earlier. So, formation of the new committees of all three units is inevitable as per the constitution.
Talking to the Daily Observer, Mafizur Rahman, General Secretary of Chattogram district South unit said he was optimistic about forming all upazila units by October next.
Khurshad Alam Sujan, Vice President of Chattogram City AL, told the Daily Observer that all the committees of the local units had expired long ago.
