Two Kushtia JL men held on extortion charges

KUSHTIA, Sept 21: Law enforcers arrested two Jubo League leaders in Kushtia for their alleged involvement in extortion.
The arrestees are Mizanur Rahman Miju, general secretary of Jubo League Kushtia Sadar upazila unit, and Ashraful Islam Sujon, convener Jubo League Kushtia town unit.
Alamin Joarder, a contractor of several construction projects at Kushtia Islamic University (IU), filed an extortion case with the IU Police Station on Friday, accusing the two Jubo League men, a DB official said.
Detectives raided Miju's residence at Hasanbag village in the upazila around 11:30 pm and arrested him while another team arrested Sujon conducting a raid on his house in the town around 11:30pm.
In the case statement, Joarder, who is handling a construction work at the IU involving around Tk 10 crore, alleged that Miju and Sujon have been putting pressure on him to pay them Tk 50 lakh.
SM Tanvir Arafat, superintendent of police in Kushtia, told our correspondent that the two Jubo League men were arrested on a specific extortion case.
