Five killed, two hurt in road mishaps in six districts

Five persons including a woman were killed, and two others seriously injured in separate road accidents in six districts- Natore, Kishoreganj, Bhola, Manikganj, Kurigram and Rajshahi, in three days.
BARAIGRAM, NATORE: A bus supervisor was killed on the spot in a road accident around 2:30pm on Saturday.
The accident took place at Banpara Bypass Intersection on Natore-Pabna Highway of Baraigram Upazila of the district.
The deceased was identified as Selim Hossain, son of Mofazzal Hossain of Poradah Village of Mirpur Upazila of Kushtia District. He worked as a bus supervisor at Shyamoli Transportation.
Sergeant Sarwar Alam of the Banpara Highway Police Station (PS) said the Shyamoli Transport Counter was picking up passengers at Banpara Bypass Intersection area while a truck hit Selim, and left him dead on the spot.
After the incident, the driver of the truck fled. However, the truck was seized and taken to the PS, said the sergeant.
KISHOREGANJ: A person was killed in a road accident in Katiadi Upazila of the district on Saturday.
The accident took place at Achmita Maddapara area under Kishoreganj-Bhairab Road in Katiadi Upazila of the district.
The deceased was identified as Md Habibur Rahman Rasel, son of Md Abdul Gafur of Bhogpara Village in Katiadi Upazila of the district. The deceased's wife Suravi Akter was seriously injured.
It is reported that Rasel and his wife Suravi were going to Gagoir Govt. Primary School from their house by motorcycle. At that time a covered-van hit the motorcycle and left them seriously injured. Local people rescued them and admitted them to Katiadi Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared Rasal dead. Injured Suravi was sent to Jahurul Islam Medical College and Hospital for better treatment.
Katiadi Highway Outpost Police Inspector Md. Nasir Uddin Mojumder confirmed the matter.
BHOLA: A motorcyclist was killed in a road accident near Bakshkhali Bridge in Daulatkhan Upazila of the district on Friday afternoon.
Deceased Md Shakil, 25, was the son of Md Tajul Khan of Joya Village under Gangapur Union in the upazila.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Daulatkhan PS Enayet Hossen said the deceased was returning Daulatkhan from Bhola town riding the bike. At that time, he lost control over the bike, and skidded off the road in the said area, leaving him seriously injured.
He was rushed to Bhola Sadar Hospital where he was declared dead.
MANIKGANJ: A woman was killed in a road accident near local Zila Parishad in the district town on Thursday night.
Deceased Arifa Akhter, 25, was the wife of a bus driver Khokan Mia and daughter of Harun Mia of the town.
Sub-Inspector (SI) of Sadar Police Station Harez Ali said the deceased was going to a wedding ceremony boarding an auto-rickshaw. On the way, her scarf got stuck with the wheel of the vehicle, and she was seriously injured.
She was rushed to Manikganj Zila Hospital where she was declared dead.
Police seized the auto-rickshaw but its driver fled the scene, the SI added.
KURIGRAM: A union parishad (UP) member was killed in an accident on Kurigram-Rangpur highway in RDRS Bazaar area in Sadar Upazila of the district on Thursday noon.
Deceased Khairul Islam Lal Mia, 55, was a former member of Kathalbari UP, and a resident of Hariswar Kaloa Village in the union.
Police and locals said a bus dashed the bike of the UP member in the said area, leaving him seriously injured.
He was rushed to Kurigram Sadar Hospital, but later died on way to Rangpur.
Sadar PS OC Mahfuzur Rahman confirmed the incident.
RAJSHAHI: A van driver lost his right leg in a road accident at Binodpur of the city early Thursday.
Injured Sultan is a resident of Pali area in Durgapur Upazila of the district.
Victim's wife Rina Khatun said a Natore-bound bus of Urmi Paribahan rammed into the van from behind in the said area, leaving him seriously injured.
Later, he was taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Police seized the bus from the spot.
