RAB arrests Kalabagan club chief
The elite force also raid Dhanmondi Club

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Kalabagan Krira Chakra club president Shafiqul Alam Feroz in a swoop on the club at Dhanmondi in the capital on Friday.
The RAB raid came on the heels of similar raids on four clubs for busting illegal casinos on Wednesday. Along with Shafiq five people were hauled up and a pistol, a number of Yaba pills, playing cards and coins used in gambling were seized from the club.
Lt Col Ashique Billah, commanding officer of RAB- 2, said suspecting that some people have been running casino business in the Kalabagan club, a team of the Rab-2 besieged it around 4:00pm, the operation was under way, Ashique Billah said.
The club president Shafiqul Alam Feroz, also member of central executive committee of Krishak League, was detained by the Rab men and was taken to Rab headquarters before being brought back to the club prior to the start of search, Lt Col Ashique Billah said.
The elite force members led by Gausul Azam, executive magistrate of Rab Headquarters, entered the club around 7:15pm.
"We had information that there are some illegal stuff and a casino here," the RAB-2 chief said.
Feroz, also senior vice-president of BAIRA, sought the Awami League's ticket for the Chandpur-5 seat (Shahrasti-Hajiganj) in the last general election.
While the operation was going on another Rab team conducted a drive at Dhanmondi Club situated in Metro Shopping Mall.
After the drive, Shahabuddin, company commander of Rab 2, said the bar of Dhanmondi Club was sealed off for 24 hours, saying that the club was closed today and they could not verify the quantity of liquors in its register and stock, even there were no authorities of club. "The club has the license of the bar. But we found some samples of gambling here," said Shahabuddin.
The Rab official also said they would verify the liquors Saturday to see if there are any anomalies
Last Wednesday, RAB raided Young Men's Club in the capital's Fakirapool and the home of its President and Dhaka Metropolitan Jubo League leader Khaled Mahmud Bhuiyan. It arrested him and seized Tk 2.4 million from a casino in the club and drugs, a huge cache of foreign currencies and illegal firearms from his home at Gulshan.
It also seized a huge amount of money, counterfeit currencies, drugs and gambling equipment in raids on the Wanderers Club in Fakirapool, Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra in Gulistan and Golden Dhaka Bangladesh in Banani's Ahmed Tower the same day.
Illegal gambling in clubs in Dhaka have been reported at different times and the issue even taken to court.
