Students of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU) have waged movement demanding resignation of Vice Chancellor professor Dr Khondaker Nasir.

They started demonstration on the campus since Wednesday night while hundreds of students besieged the administrative building around 9:00am on Thursday to press home their demand.

The demonstrating students said they went on the movement seeking resignation of the VC. Soon, they will formally announce their demands.

VC Nasir told a Bangla online news portal that the university authorities have already accepted 14 demands of the students. Despite this, they are protesting to create unrest and embarrass the government.

A certain quarter in and outside the university is helping the students to continue the protest, he alleged.

Bringing various allegation against him including corruption and irregularities, a number of protesters alleged that VC Nasir is a BNP supporter.

They said teachers appointed in his tenure are also pro BNP-Jamaat. So, Jamaat-BNP backed VC cannot continue in this university, they warned.

Recently the university administration has expelled LLB (Honours) second year student and the university correspondent of The Daily Sun Fatema Tuz Zinia for her posts on social media on September 10.

Following this, different professional organizations protested the suspension order, mentioning it illegal, inhuman, barrier to freedom of speech and threat to journalism.

At the same time, they demanded VC Nasir's resignation for his involvement with different irregularities.

Protesting student Zahangir Alam said, "We demonstrated to realise our 14-point demand, including ensuring freedom of speech. The administration accepted the demands early hours of the day. Now, our movement is for VC's resignation."
