Forced marriage of rape victim: OC Obaidul suspended

Pabna Sadar Police officer in-charge Obaidul Haque has been suspended over the forced marriage of an alleged gang rape victim with one of the accused at the police station.
Obaidul Haque was temporarily suspended from the public service as per rules, confirmed Pabna Sadar Circle Additional Superintendent of Police Ibn Mizan on Wednesday.
They have received a fax from the Police Headquarters on Tuesday night for his dismissal, the ASP added.
Earlier on September 12, OC Obaidul was withdrawn and sub-inspector Ekramul Haque suspended in the incident.
Hails from Dapunia union under Sadar upazila, a mother of three children alleged that her neighbour Russel Ahmed took her to his home after abduction on August 29. Russel alongwith his associates raped her there for two days.
Later, she was kept confined for three more days at a business establishment where 4-5 men violated her, alleged the woman.
Later, the housewife lodged a complaint with Sadar Police Station. Following her complaint, police detained Russel but police forced the victim to divorce her husband and marry Russel on the night.
Police authorities have asked OC Obaidul to give his explanation in this regard.
Following the order of higher authorities, the case has been taken at the police station.
