Gang rape suspect breaks hand, legs of plaintiff

After coming out of jail on bail, gang rape accused Patuakhali Sramik League leader Shakil Mridha allegedly beat up the plaintiff mercilessly on Tuesday night, leaving him critically injured.
Mahipur Police Station officer in-charge Md Sohel Ahmed said police were informed that an attack was carried out on Siddik Hawlader of West Chapli area under Dhulsar union, the plaintiff in the gang rape case and also the husband of the victim.
Thana unit Sramik League general secretary Shakil Mridha led the attack around 9:00pm, he added.
Injured Siddik filed the case accusing 10/12 including Shakil for violating his wife on April 15, police said.
He had been sent to jail in the case, but recently released from prison on bail.
Quoting locals, OC said Shakil beat up Siddik with iron rod, and stick when the latter was sitting at a tea stall at Chapli Bazar, leaving him critically injured.
Unconscious Siddik was first taken to Kalapara Upazila Health Complex and then shifted to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital following deterioration of his condition.
Quoting Kalapara Upazila Health Complex, the OC said Siddik suffered fractures in his left hand and both legs.
