2 killed in 'gunfights'
Two people were killed in separate incidents of 'gunfight' with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Gazipur and Narayanganj districts early Wednesday.
In Gazipur, suspected dacoit Masud Parvez, 34, a resident of Barmi village in Sreepur upazila, was killed in a shootout in Satkhamair area in the upazila.
On information that a gang of dacoits was taking preparation to commit robbery in the area, a team of RAB-1 conducted a drive there.
Sensing the presence of the team, the gang opened fire on the elite force, forcing them to fire back that led a gunfight, Kamruzzaman said.
After the gunfight, the RAB rescued bullet-hit Masud while others managed to flee the scene, according to our correspondent.
Masud was rushed to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
He was an accused in 14 cases, including of robbery, arms, murder and drugs, said RAB-1 deputy director Md Kamruzzaman.
A foreign pistol, six shotguns and 15 bullets were recovered from the spot, the RAB official added
In Narayanganj, murder case suspect Tuhin, 34, was killed in a gunfight in Syedpur area in Sadar upazila.
Tuhin, a resident of Deobhog Shantinagar area in Fatullah, was an accused in four cases, including of murder and extortion, said RAB-11deputy director Major Talukder Najmus Sakib.
Earlier on Tuesday night, the RAB arrested Tuhin from Rasulpur area in Debidwar upazila of Cumilla.
According to confessional statement, a team of RAB-11 alongwith Tuhin conducted a drive in the area to recover arms and drugs.
Sensing their presence, Tuhin's cohorts opened fire on the elite force, forcing them to fire back that left him bullet-injured.
He was taken to Narayanganj General Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared Tuhin dead.
The RAB also recovered a foreign pistol, a magazine and three bullets from the scene, the official added.
