Students suffer for water-logging at Monpura school
MONPURA, BHOLA, Sept 17: The students of Monpura Daserhat Government Primary School in Monpura Upazila of the district are suffering much as the school ground remains water-logged during the entire monsoon.
The students have to go to the school with books in one hand and shoes in another. Many a times, their uniforms and books get wet.
Due to the water-logging for half of the year, the students cannot sing national anthem before the classes start. Even they cannot play on the ground.
Head teacher of the school Chapala Rani Das could not solve the problem despite addressing it to the administration and the public representatives many a times. She also said the students cannot come to the school on fear of snake and leech on the water-logged field.
While visiting the school recently, it was found that the students were wading through knee-deep water to reach the school building. Many students including Tanbir and Rahim of class 3, Rahat of class 4, and Tania of class 5, said, "We do not like to study at this school. The playground is under water, so we cannot play. While entering the school, we fall in water and get wet. We have to study in wet uniforms. We demand that the school ground be filled."
Head teacher Chapala Rani Das said, "We are facing setback as the school remains water-logged for half of the year. We informed the matter to the authority concerned, but there was no response."
Acting Upazila Education Officer Mizanur Rahman said the matter was presented at the upazila coordination meeting.
Chairman of Hajirhat Union Parishad and Vice-President of Upazila Awami League Shahriar Chowdhury Deepak said the ground will be filled in the next winter.
