Three persons jailed in two districts
Three persons were jailed in two districts-Pirojpur and Bogura, on different charges, in two days.
BHANDARIA, PIROJPUR: A court here on Monday sentenced a man to five-year imprisonment and fined Tk 10,000, in default, to serve six more months in jail in a drug case.
Convict Ripon Hawlader, 28, is a resident of Dhawa Village in Bhandaria Upazila.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Md Abdul Mannan delivered the verdict.
Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Md Alauddin Khan said police arrested Ripon along with 155 yaba tablets in 2016.
Later, a case under Narcotics Control Act was filed against him with Bhandaria Police Station, the PP added.
BOGURA: A mobile court here on Saturday night sentenced two persons including a woman on different jail terms for selling fake medicines.
Convicts Kalpana Begum, wife of Taijul Hossain, was given six-month and Shahiduzzaman, 35, eight-month jail terms. Both of them were fined Tk 40,000, in default, to serve two more months in jail.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-12 Bogura Camp Special Company Commander Major SM Morshed Hasan said, acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB raided Taijul Hossain's house in Sultanganj Para of the district town at 9pm, and nabbed Taijul's wife Kalpana with fake medicines and equipment worth about Tk 10 lakh.
Meanwhile, the team conducted another drive in Hajji Para area at 11pm and busted a fake medicine factory, owned by Shahiduzzaman. RAB also detained the owner and seized fake medicine worth about Tk 20 lakh from the factory.
