The Awami League has directed all district, city, upazila, thana, municipality, union and ward units, whose committee-tenure expired, to hold councils by December 10 as the national council of the party is slated for December 20 and 21.
The ruling party gave the directive on Sunday night in a press release.
The release said the decision was taken at a meeting of Awami League Central Working Committee, the highest decision making body of the party, on Saturday at the Prime Minister's official residence Ganobhaban in the city.
The date of AL national council has been deferred to December from October by extending the tenure of the present central committee for two months.
The party could hold council in only one district unit out of 78 organisational districts after the last national council of the party held on October 23 in 2016.
