613 mandaps being prepared for celebrating Durga Puja in Barishal
BARISHAL, Sept 16: At least 613 mandaps are being prepared to celebrate this year's Durga Puja in the district.
Out of the mandaps, 40 are being prepared in the city.
General Secretary (GS) of District Puja Udjapan Parishad Manik Mukherjee Kudu said it will take some time to declare the final number of the mandaps. Like other years, the puja will be held in more mandaps at Agoiljhara Upazila this year.
On the other hand, law enforcers have started their work to ensure peaceful celebration of this year's Durga Puja festival in the district. In this connection, a meeting was held at drill shed of Barishal Police Lines on September 8 last with Police Super (SP) Md Saiful Islam, BPM (Bar), in the chair.
Among others, President of District Puja Udjapan Parishad Rakhal Chandra Dey, GS Manik Mukherjee Kudu, and President of City Puja Udjapan Parishad Narayan Chandra Dey were also present.
Additional SP Md Naimul Haque said they will take measures centring the importance of the mandaps. They will deploy their own volunteers and Ansar members at the mandaps while a total of 924 policemen will be placed in the whole district. Besides, members of Barishal Metropolitan Police will also be deployed in the city area.
