Asaduzzaman Noor receives Syed Mohidul Islam Padak


Renowned Bangladeshi cultural activist, politician and actor Asaduzzaman Noor has received the prestigious 'Syed Mohidul Islam Padak' on September 15 at National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Segunbagicha in the city. Syed Mohidul Islam is a noted playwright, actor and director of the country. To observe his 17th death anniversary, a five day long 'Syed Mohidul Islam Memorial Festival' is now on at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. The festival will end on September 18.
Around five different dramas from Bangladesh and abroad has been staged, as the festival marked its first decade journey in this year. List of the dramas to be staged includes 'Draupadi Parampara' by Theatre (September 14), 'Ekti Premer Golpo' by Jalpaiguri's Onami Theatre Centre, India (September 15), 'Takkhak' by Byatikrom Nattya Goshthi (September 17), and 'Girgiti' by Granthik Nattya Goshti (September 18). Syed Mohidul Islam is the founder of a drama troupe named 'Batikrom Natya Goshthi'. For paying tribute to the author, the drama troupe has been organising the festival on a regular basis.
On the other hand, theatre activists Sujit Saha, Shadhona Ahmed, Mir Zahid Hasan, Tonima Hamid and Shubhobroto Dey were awarded with 'Mancha Bandhu Award'. The Jugol (Duo) awards were given to Abhijit Sengupta and Dipta Rakkhit, Ali Haider and Samina Luthfa Nitra, Mosharraf Karim and Robena Reza, Moithili Guho and Shimanta Maitra, and Masud Sumon and Mumu Masud.
He was born in 1946 in Bagerhat district of Bangladesh. After completing his graduation from University of Dhaka, he went to Pakistan and later India, to obtain his post graduation in dramatics. After returning to Bangladesh, he founded the drama troupe. Later he established a school of acting in 1984. He directed 33 plays for 'Batikrom Natya Goshthi' and many more for radio and television. He also directed two films and translated many plays in Bangla.
Previous 'Syed Mohidul Islam Padak' holders were- Jamil Ahmed, Ferdousi Majumdar, Liaquat Ali Lucky and Ataur Rahman.
