Md Shafiqul Islam, the new Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Sunday said if people do not get desired services from any police station he is ready to work there as its Officer-in-Charge (OC).
"If people don't get services, face harassment at police stations under DMP then I'll be there and serve people as an OC, if needed. DCs and other senior officers will be there," said the DMP boss.
"And I myself will work as an OC," he said while briefing journalists at the Media Centre of DMP headquarters.
Replying to a query of journalists, the DMP chief assured journalists that he would take proper steps so that people can lodge general diaries (GDs) or file cases without any harassment.
Necessary steps will be taken so that service seekers at police stations do not face any harassment, he said and added, "This is my biggest challenge."
The OCs and DCs have been asked to take necessary steps for strengthening monitoring system at the police stations so that people can get rid of police phobia, he said.
Action will be taken if any policeman is found involved in harassing, extortion and illegal transaction for providing services, the DMP chief warned.
When people return from police stations, they should return with the guarantee that they will get back their lost goods and dignity, he said.
The Commissioner further said people should have faith on police adding that he will work on the matter.
People will not be the victim of extortion and harassment any more, he said, calling upon people to assist police in bringing discipline on roads as it is not possible without their help.
