A suspected Rohingya robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar early Sunday.

Deceased Habib Ullah, 40, was a resident of Nayapara Mochoni Rohingya refugee camp no: 26. Police claimed that he was a member of robber gang.

Teknaf Police Station officer in-charge Pradip Kumar Dash said police detained Habib with arms around 1:00 am.

Following his confession, a team of police along with Habib conducted a drive in a hill near Mochni Rohingya Camp to recover arms.

Sensing the presence of law enforcers, his cohorts opened fire on police personnel, forcing them to fire back on self-defence.

Later, police found the bullet-hit body of Habib from the spot and sent it to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue.

Two local firearms and 10 bullets also were recovered from the scene.

Two members of police were injured during the gunfight, claimed police.
