If necessary, I'll take charge of police station: DMP boss
Newly appointed chief of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Shafiqul Islam has announced that he is willing to take charge of police station as its officer-in-charge if people do not get expected services there.
"If people do not get expected service and good behaviour at police stations under the DMP, senior officials will be there. If necessary, I will take charge of police station as an OC," he said.
The DMP boss came up with the announcement at a 'Meet the Press' programme at the DMP's media center on Sunday.
Sounding a note of warning, he also said, "Cops will also be put into jail to take legal action against them if their involvement is found with drug dealing or taking facilities from drug traders," he said.
He also asked the police personnel posted in the police stations not to harass or demand money unlawfully to the service seekers. "Otherwise, he/she will be brought to book," he warned.
Shafiqul Islam also warned of giving senior officials' postings to the police stations, even he himself is willing to take charge of police station if people are denied expected service from cops.
