Playground named after Sri Lanka blast victim Zayan
A playground in city's Banani area has been named after Zayan Chowdhury, one of the victims of Easter Sunday bombings in Sri Lanka and also grandson of Awami League Presidium Member and lawmaker Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim.
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md Atiqul Islam laid the foundation stone of Shaheed Zayan Chowdhury Playground as the chief guest at a function on Saturday.
While addressing the function, he said, "This field has been named after innocent kid Zayan, who was killed in terrorist blasts in Sri Lanka in April this year."
"As per the demand of local people, we have decided to take such initiative to name the playground after Zayan for avowing protest against terrorism, he added. Zayan's grandfather Selim, who was also present at the event, urged all to pray for his beloved grandson and seek internal peace of his departed soul.
The mayor also said the playground would be built with modern facilities and managed with the cooperation and participation of the locals along with the DNCC. Ward Councilor Mofizur Rahman, Project Manager Dr Tariq bin Yusuf and Architect Iqbal Habib, among others, were present on the occasion. -BSS
