New DMP chief Shafiqul Islam takes charge

Md Shafiqul Islam, the newly-appointed commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), took charge on Friday as the successor of outgoing commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia.
Shafiqul previously served as Additional Inspector General of Police in the Criminal
Investigation Department (CID) of police.
He joined the Bangladesh Police as assistant superintendent of police in the 8th BCS (Police) cadre. During his career, Shafiqul served as the superintendent of police in Narayanganj, Patuakhali, Sunamganj and Cumilla districts.
Shafiqul, who becomes the DMP's 34th commissioner, was awarded Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM) more than twice for his professionalism and skill.
He was born in a respected Muslim family at Naoda Bondo Beel village in Alamdanga upazila of Chuadanga district. He completed his BSc (Hons) degree from Bangladesh Agricultural University in 1986.
Outgoing DMP Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Security Affairs Cell under the Cabinet Division for a three-year term.
