Dengue disease spreads alarmingly at Gangni
MEHERPUR, Sept 13: The aedes mosquitoes are spreading in Gangni Upazila of the district alarmingly.
Though dengue patients have not been detected in other upazilas of the district, but new patients are being detected daily in Gangni Upazila.
About 10 to 12 patients are being admitted to Gangni Hospital every day.
As a result, the patients infected with other diseases are at high risk. Due to lack of public awareness and other reasons, the aedes mosquitoes are spreading in the upazila.
Most of the dengue patients have been locally infected. As a result, doctors confirmed that aedes mosquitoes exist in the upazila.
"I have no idea how dengue spread here," said Forz Ali of Hijalbaria Village in the upazila, who was admitted to Gangni Hospital.
Ashiqul Islam, a day labourer of Hinda Village, echoed the same as Forz Ali. He said mosquito nets are not hung at the houses and mosquito repellent coils are not used. Thus, due to unconsciousness and negligence, dengue is spreading.
Residential Medical Officer (RMO) of Gangni Upazila Health Complex Dr B D Das said there are 32 beds in two wards, and more than half of those are filled with dengue patients.
Meanwhile, a research team from the Institute of Epidemiology and Disease Control Research (IEDCR) visited several villages in the upazila and collected samples a few days ago. The IEDCR will report on aedes by examining the samples.
