Readymade garment (RMG) workers of a factory of Nassa Group called off their protest after blocking the Tejgaon industrial area main road for four hours.
The workers were demanding the reinstatement and payment of dues of the workers who were sacked 'unreasonably.'
Police charged batons on workers to disperse them. In response, the demonstrators threw brick chips at the law enforcers, injuring around five to six police personnel, said Ali Hosen Khan, Officer-in-Charge of Tejgaon Industrial Police Station.
The OC further said that around few hundred workers of Nasa Garments at Begunbari blocked the road at 10:00am demanding
reinstatement of 66 sacked workers. Earlier on the day, the workers blocked the Saat Rasta Intersection around 9:00am to press home their demands.
"On Wednesday night, they also came out on to the streets but after the police urged them to lift the blockade, they went home," OC said
The factory administration has fired 66 workers over various irregularities recently.
