Our focus will be on cricket, not security, says Sri Lanka's new ODI skipper
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has sought the assistance of the Sri Lankan Government to conduct a 'Reassessment' of the security situation in Pakistan ahead of the National Team's planned tour to Pakistan, but the new ODI captain Lahiru Thirimanne wants to concentrate more on the game.
Speaking exclusively over telephone from Colombo a few hours before the news of a possible threat to the team, Lahiru Thirimanne said, "Our focus is not the security right now but cricket...".
"SLC has presented us the security plan which we are getting in Pakistan so I'm pretty happy with that and I explained to my family as well, so they don't have a concern since we represent our country".
"It's a personal matter sometimes when the player is ready to go but the families not happy so we have to think about everything. So these decisions (senior skipping the tour) have to be respected".
"I think its another series for me as a player. Because I know this (captaincy) is just for 3 matches. Dimuth has been doing a great job leading and it's important that we play our best brand of cricket whatever the situation and the team combination we have".
"But still we have a good team. I believe if we play to our potential we can do very well", the 3-year-old left-handed batsman signed off.
