Indian citizen held with $25,000

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained an Indian national with American currencies in Sharsha upazila of Jashore district on Wednesday morning.

Detainee Rakesh Mandal, 50, hailed from North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal state, said Lt Col Md Selim Reza, commanding officer of BGB-49.

On information, a BGB team searched a bus of 'Shyamali Paribahan' at Amrakhali check post near the Benapole border around 11:40 am and detained Rakesh along with $ 25,000, the BGB official said.

BGB also recovered many smuggled goods worth Tk about 21 lakhs from his possession.

On primary investigation, Rakesh confessed that he is involved with hundi business, the official added.
