Minor girl commits suicide at Bhandaria
BHANDARIA, PIROJPUR, Sept 9: A schoolgirl committed suicide in the village Hetalia under Bhandaria Upazila of the district.
Two days back, another school student, Rupa, committed suicide.
She was identified as Halima, 10, a student of Class IV at Hetalia Government Primary School and daughter of Miran Howlader, a garment worker from the same village.
According to local sources, Halima lived with her younger brother, Emam, in her grandmother's house due to her parents' employment in a garments factory. On Sunday last, she had a quarrel with her younger brother, for which her grandmother slapped her, and the girl, upset with her grandmother, hanged herself in the kitchen with her scarf and got seriously injured. Her relatives rescued her and immediately admitted her to Bhandaria Upazila Health Complex. After one day, when her condition worsened, she was sent to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital (SBMCH) and later to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).
Halima died on Wednesday morning while undergoing treatment at the DMCH.
Meanwhile, on the death of Halima, the head teacher of her school closed the school for one day.
