Various fast food items, like biscuit, cake and bread are taken by almost everyone in the family. These foods are served to the hosts in any house. Besides, children also like these foods. These bakery items reach the consumers of remote areas daily.
The question now arises if anybody has tried to find out where and how these foods are made. Besides, the concerned departments hardly monitor the matter.

The bakery owners are not using their unique packets rather using packets purchased from outside. There are no production or expiry dates and price list on the packets. Biscuit is sold in kg and other items are sold in pieces.
After the Fazr prayer, the deliverymen deliver the items to general stores and tea shops in different areas by van.
However, Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) only approves the manufacture of biscuit, but the bakeries are making different types of cakes, buns and other foods. Besides, they have no knowledge about safe food.
Different harmful products, like baking powder, yeast and ammonia are being used to prepare the foods. The bakery owners said these products could not be made without these materials.
Assistant Director of the Department of National Consumer Rights Protection in the district Mahmudul Hasan said legal action would be taken against the bakeries which are making substandard food items.
Upazila Health Complex Dr Md Anisur Rahman said baking powder and yeast can be used in preparing foods as per rules. But using in excess is harmful to health. However, ammonia cannot be used with food. During preparing food, the workers must use wear caps and gloves. Otherwise, germs will spread from the body to the food.
