3 Smugglers held with mobile sets remanded
Three smugglers who were arrested with 2,246 mobile phone sets worth about Tk3.5 crore from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, were placed on a two day remand by a Dhaka Court on Sunday.
The three smugllers who will face police interrogation, are Md Sujon, 49, Shahriar Hossain Prince, 33, and Md Rofiqul Islam, 27.
Metropolitan Magistrate Asek Imam passed the order as the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case also Inspector (Operation) of Air Port Police, Noor Mohammad produced them before the court with a ten-day remand prayer for interrogation. Their lawyer Advocate Mahbur Rahman pleaded before to cancel their remand.
Members of the Armed Police Battalion (APBn) detained them for smuggling 2,246 mobile phone sets into the country at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
A police source said the mobile phone sets were being smuggled into Bangladesh from China. The estimated value of the goods is around Tk 3.5 crore.
They were held from the canopy area of the airport around 8am on Saturday after they arrived in the country on a US Bangla Airlines flight.
During primary interrogation, they confessed to bringing the mobile phone sets from Guangzhou area in China to be sold in Bangladesh, and that they have been involved in smuggling for many years.
A case was filed with Airport police station in this regard.
