18 injured in Gazipur hotel explosion

Eighteen people were injured in an explosion at a hotel in Board Bazar area of Gazipur City Corporation early Sunday.

Tongi Fire Service and Civil Defence Senior Station Officer Atiqur Rahman said the explosion took place at 'Radhuni Hotel' in the area around 2am and the hotel collapsed.

A portion of 'Tripti Hotel and Restaurant' adjacent to the hotel were also collapsed following the explosion.

Being informed, three firefighting units rushed to the spot.

But before their arrival, local people rescued the injured and taken them to Tairunnessa Memorial Medical College Hospital. Later, they were shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

DMCH in-charge inspector Md Bachchu Miah said among the injured, three were admitted to the burn unit of the hospital where one is in critical condition.

All the injured are staff of the two restaurants.

A five-member probe body has been formed to investigate the incident.

Gachha Police Station OC Ismail Hossain said the reason behind the fire and the extent of damage could not be known immediately.
