Adolescence and its Problems

Adolescence and its Problems

Just adolescent Anik has somewhat changed. He is anxious about his physical and mental change. Anik has become a little downhearted. With whom he will talk about his own matters? Rokya Akhther, mother of Anik became afraid of the change of her son. One day she took her son to a doctor. Doctor talked with Anik for a long time. He made Anik understand that there is no fear. It is natural to be changed physically and mentally at this age. At the same time, he made Anik understand the natural problems of an adolescent and provided him with necessary advices.
Not only Anik but also many adolescent boys and girls cannot take natural changes of adolescent period easily and become afraid. Wrong information and lack of proper knowledge misguide their blooming physically and mentally. In our country, there is little learning arrangement about procreation and programme for advocacy. So the boys and girls are facing problems by believing the wrong explanation.
In Bangladesh Adolescent Life Learning Forum Programme, the basic knowledge for the youths are: the introduction of the limbs of boy and girls and their changes, during adolescence period essential food and nutrition for them, mental change and change in behavior, life's mystery (how the life begins), individual's health care, knowing about AIDS,a sexual disease, family planning, necessity of moral and religious  values, elimination of superstitions.
It has been found from an observation that 25 per cent of the total number of AIDS patients in the world are aged around 14/15. The youths are easily inclined to sex. They don't have the wise mentality to differentiate between the good and the bad. So it is an admitted fact that proper education in youth is essential to be worthy parents in future. Inadequate learning and training for young girls can jeopardize their ability and push them towards a very risky future.
Professor Dr Naila Zaman Khan, the child Neurologist of Dhaka Child Hospital says, "The liberty of the present youths are more, they are more conscious of their physical and mental development as well as their families." Nowadays, there are more informative sources due to media but the informal information is essential for the healthy development. When a child becomes a youth, various changes affect his/her body and s/he wants to know the actual cause of these changes. In our country, still this matter is discussed openly in a very few families.
In middle class families, young girls get ideas about body from the maid servant and boys from pornography. The parents become anxious about the gradual change of their children before their eyes, their failure to go to school in time and their lifestyle without any routine, their harsh talk without any cause. The condition of an adolescent girl is that she sometimes looks gloomy, argues with her mother about extra clothes and giving up frocks. In these circumstances, the parents become anxious about the air of change.
