Roadside trees being used for hanging ads in Noakhali
NOAKHALI, Sept 5: Nearly every roadside tree in the district is being used for advertisement.
Various ads of political leaders, doctors, shops, houses, and many other organisations have been nailed on the roadside trees. As a result, many trees have died.
The trees in the district headquarters and in every upazila of the district, bus stops, median of the roads, and even the storm-hit trees are now fully occupied by different advertisements.
Even the trees of the local forest department are being used for advertisement by various doctors' chambers, clothing stores, political parties, and diagnostic centres. The advertisements, including small, medium and even large, are shown up in many places of the district.
A local environmentalist Nur Alam Masud said like human beings, the trees are also hurt if hit by something. This is an inhuman act to nail any object on the trees. Moreover, the spot where any object is nailed is affected. As a result, the tree becomes weaker day by day.
Coastal Forest Officer of the district Toidul Islam said he does not know whether there is any specific law in this connection. Nonetheless, legal initiative is necessary to stop such inhumane acts.. He urged all to come forward in this connection.
Law Officer of local forest department Jamal Uddin Bhuiyan said trees have also lives. Plants suffer from injuries just like any living animal. But those who are nailing trees do not realise it. Placing advertisements on the trees is a punishable offence.
