Former CMCH principal Prof Dr Syeda Nurjahan dies

CHATTOGRAM, Aug 29: Prominent gynaecologist and former principal of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) Prof Dr Syeda Nurjahan Bhuiyan passed away early Thursday. She was 79.
Dr Nurjahan breathed her last around 3:00am at her residence in the city, said Dr Foysal Iqbal Chowdhury, general secretary, Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA), Chattogram unit.
Her first namaz-e-janaza was held at central mosque of Chattogram Medical College after Johr prayers.
Dr Syeda Nurjahan was born on December 21, 1939 in Dhaka and completed MBBS from Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) in 1963. Later she received MRCOGH and FRCOG degrees from London.
She started her career in 1968 as an assistant professor at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. He joined Chattogram Medical College Hospital as a professor in 1977.
In 1989 she became head of the Gynaecology Department at CMCH and later became its principal.
