Govt to build safe, durable roads in districts

The government has decided to develop new infrastructure in rural area across the country. For this reason, the Road Transport and Bridges Ministry has taken two development projects for durable and safe bridge in Dhaka and Rangpur Divisions.
It will cost Tk 1,767 crore and the projects will be implemented within June 2021. The meeting of the project evaluation committee (PEC) was recently held process the projects.
At the meeting, the Deputy Commissioners of the districts have been asked to address the issue of land acquisition, including how to mitigate objections on some other issues.
The revised Development Project Proposal (DPP) has been sent to the Planning Commission from the court. Soon they will be presented before the meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for approval.
The government has prioritized infrastructure development and planned urbanisation of villages in the budget for the current fiscal year (FY).
Planning Minister MA Mannan said, "Most of the major infrastructure projects are entering      the final stage of implementation. At this stage, it will be important to allocate more resources for these."
According to sources, the Directorate of Roads and Highways is maintaining 4507 bridges and 13,751 culverts under the Road Transport and Highway Division across the country.
According to projects proposal, the government has made allocation of Tk 1190 crore for Dhaka Division.
The project areas are - Dhaka District Headquarters and Savar Upazila, Gazipur District Headquarters, Kaliganj, Sripur, Kaliakir and Kapasia Upazilas. Manikganj district headquarters, Ghior, Harirampur, Saturia and Daulatpur upazilas.
There are Narayanganj district headquarters, Araihazar, Sonargaon and Srinagar, Dohar upazilas under Munshiganj district. Project appraisal reports and feasibility studies have been undertaken to implement the project.
Sources also said that the Department of Roads and Transport has taken initiatives to replace the existing bailey and other risky bridges at some critical and important points of Rangpur Zone, like Dhaka Division.
In order to establish sustainable and secure road links in Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, Nilphamari,  Gaibandha, Dinajpur and Thakurgaon districts.
For this, a project has been prepared and sent to the Planning Commission for approval. It will be implemented by June 2021. The main work of the project is to replace 1885 metre long (35) bailey bridge and 83 metre long (six)        culvert.
The new road will be built over 5 kilomitre (km). Moreover 4.52 km road will be strengthened over there.
