Police detained two drug traders who received bulet injuries during police firing in Sadar upazila of Jhenidah on Sunday afternoon.

The detainees are: Mamunur Rahman and Zebul Hossain. They both are residents of Ishwarchandrapur village in Damurhuda upazila.

On secret information that a consignment of drugs is coming in the district from Chuadanga, detectives set up a check-post to search vehicles in Mothurapur area under Jhenidah Municipality, said Superintendent of Jhenidah Police (SP) Hasanuzzama.

Two bike riders attack law enforcers with sharp weapons as police stopped the motorcycle for a search, forcing the policemen to open fire in self-defence.

Mamun and Zebul received bullet-injuries in the firing, the SP said.

Police also recovered 66 bottles of contraband Phensedyl syrup from their possessions.

The injured were admitted to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital.
