PM leads nation in paying last respects to Prof Muzaffar

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina led the nation in paying homage to the veteran politician, Prof Muzaffar Ahmed, on Saturday morning at the South Plaza of the parliament by placing a wreath on his coffin draped with the national flag.
The ceremony ended with a minute's silence in honour of the late professor's memory.   

On behalf of President M Abdul Hamid his military secretary placed a wreath on the coffin on the late leader.
Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury also paid her respect by placed a wreath on Prof Muzaffar's coffin at the South Plaza.
Prof Muzaffar also happened to be a member of the advisory council during the time of the Mujibnagar government, playing a monumental role in the nation's Liberation War in 1971.

On behalf of her party Awami League President Sheikh Hasina paid her respect by placing another wreath alongside several senior leaders of the party.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, joint secretaries Mahbub-ul Alam Hanif and Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Organizing Secretary Enamul Haque  Shameem, Information and Research Secretary Adv Afzal Hussain, Office Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, and other prominent leaders of the party were also present.

A munajat was offered for the departed soul of Prof Muzaffar.
The first namaz-e-janaza of the NAP president was held at South Plaza of the parliament around 11:00am.

Prof Muzaffar, who was the NAP president for over five decades, breathed his last around 8:00pm on Friday at Dhaka's Apollo Hospital.
In the afternoon, people from all walks of life had thronged the capital's Central Shaheed Minar, where his body was kept for people to pay their last respect to one of the political luminaries of the country and Bangladesh National Awami Party-NAP (Muzaffar) President Prof Muzaffar Ahmed.

Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President ASM Abdur Rab, Ekattorer Ghatok-Dalal Nirmul Committee vice-president Muntasir Mamun, educationist Mamtaz Rashid, freedom fighter Shafiqur Rahman, Bangladesh Mahila Parishad President Ayesha Khanam, Jatiya Samajantrik Dal (JSD) President Hasanul Haq Inu, JSD General Secretary Shirin Akhtar, Samyabadi Dal general secretary Dilip Barua, leaders for different political parties including Awami League and BNP, eminent cultural personalities paid their last respect to Prof Muzaffar.

Prof Muzaffar, the last member of the advisory council of the government in exile during Liberation War in 1971, breathed his last at a Dhaka hospital on Friday night.

Prof Muzaffar will be buried at his village home in Cumilla's Debidar Upazila on Sunday (August 25).
