Juba League man killed in Chuadanga
CHUADANGA, Aug 24: A Juba league activist was hacked to death by his own party leader over previous enmity near Darshana Rail Gate under Damurhuda upazila of the district on Friday evening.
Deceased Nayeem Uddin Paltu, 35, was the son of late Abdur Rauf Mandal of Essar Chandrapur Village in the upazila.
Locals, police and family members said there had been a longstanding dispute over establishing supremacy in the area among Nayeem Uddin Paltu and Sheikh Aslam Ali Tota, Juba League general secretary (GS) of Darshana Municipality unit and Abdul Mannan, assistant GS of the same unit.
On Friday, Sheikh Aslam Ali and Abdul Mannan along with five to seven locked in an altercation with the victim over the issue. At one stage they hacked Nayeem and Manjurul Islam, 34, with sharp weapons, leaving them seriously injured.
Locals rushed them to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital where on-duty doctor declared Nayeem dead, while injured Manjurul is under treatment.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Sukumar Biswas, officer-in-charge of Damurhuda Police Station, confirmed the incident and said none was arrested and no case was filed in this connection.
