Tanners to repay Tk 400cr to rawhide merchants in 3 installments

The tannery owners have decided to repay arrears of Tk 400 crore in three installments to the leather collectors.
The progress of repayment will be informed at a meeting with the Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) on August 5.
The decisions were made at a meeting of the tannery owners and rawhide traders with the FBCCI on Thursday. The meeting was chaired by FBCCI President Sheikh Fazle Fahim.
The FBCCI President said the amount owed to the tannery owners is TK 400 crore, which will be paid in three installments.
Of them, the dues of the period from 1990 to 2010 will be repaid in one installment, from 2010 to 2015 in the second installment and from 2015 to 2019 in the final installment.
The meeting informed that the owners of the tannery will hold another meeting on Saturday.
They will make a detailed decision on how the dues will be paid. Besides, on August 31, tanners from both sides will again hold meetings with the FBCCI.
Mohammad Delwar Hossain, President of Bangladesh Hide and Skin Merchant Association said, "We are yet to say whether we are satisfied with the meeting."
"We want the arrears from 2015 to 2019 first," he said.
He said before the Eid there was a meeting with the Ministry of Commerce on fixing price of rawhide. Tanners said at the meeting held the last working day before the Eid said they would pay the dues. But they did not pay till now.
After the meeting, Tanners Association President Shaheen Ahmed said, "This time we will arrange a meeting with tanners and will decide when the payments will be made and how they will be collected."
