Two Rohingyas killed in ‘gunfight’

Two suspected Rohingya drug traders were killed in a reported gunfight with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar early Thursday.

Deceased Md Saker, 22, was a resident of Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Ukhia upazila, and Nur Alam, 30, of Muchni Rohingya camp in the upazila.

BGB-2 deputy commanding officer Shariful Islam Jomaddar said on information that a big consignment of Yaba will come through Kathakhal of Naf River, a team of BGB members conducted a drive in the East side of Ulubunia village.

During this, they challenged a boat coming towards Katakhal but sensing the presence of law enforcers the smugglers opened fire on BGB, forcing them to fire back for self-defense.

Later, the border force members found the bodies of Saker and Nur on the spot.

Around 50,000 Yaba tablets, a gun, three bullets and two machetes were recovered from the scene.
