Law Minister Anisul Huq on Wednesday said the Supreme Court is preparing to hold hearing on death reference and appeals in connection with the August 21 grenade attack case.
To start the hearing, the Supreme Court has started preparing paper book on jail appeals and death references of the case.
"Hopefully, it will be ready within two to four months. After completion of preparing the paper book, appeal hearing of the case will start by this year," the minister said.
The minister said this while talking to journalists at his Secretariat office in Dhaka on the August 21 grenade attack case.
He said, "You need to hold hearing on death reference at the High Court to execute the death sentence. The same rule is applicable to the convicts sentenced to life imprisonment. Before holding hearing on death reference, it is needed to prepare paper book. It is getting prepared."
"It may take two to four months to complete it. After that the matter will come on the cause list for holding hearing on the case," he said.
The Minister further said the government is working to bring back all the fugitive convicts, including Tarique Rahman, in the two cases filed over the barbaric attack in 2004.
"There were some problems to bring the fugitives back. The problems still exist. We are trying to resolve those. I hope it will be possible to bring them back within the shortest possible time by overcoming all the difficulties," he added.
Expressing his hope to ensure execution of all convicts in the case overcoming the problems, the Minister said they had killed the victims brutally.
They had tried to kill Bangladesh for the second time. It's now our responsibility to assist the court to complete the trial.
