Shinjan Roy, son of the Khulna tax commissioner, has been expelled from his educational institution-- North Western University-- on charge of raping a fellow student and impregnating her.
A three-member committee has also been formed to look into the matter, confirmed professor Dr Tarapod Bhoumik, Vice-chancellor of the university's Khulna branch.
A press release, signed by the university registrar Shahidul Islam on Wednesday, said Shinjan Roy, 25, a third year student of LLB programme, has temporarily been expelled from the institution.
The decision was taken at a meeting held on August 19 in presence of the VC, the deans of different faculties, the registrar, the head of the departments and the proctor.
Allegation against Shinjan of violating a girl student of the same department with a promise to marry her has been proved initially, the release said.
Earlier on Friday, a court in Khulna ordered to send Shinjan to jail in a case filed for violating his classmate and getting her into trouble.
