The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court will pass an order on publication of gazette notification on the 9th Wage Board for journalists today.
A four-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Mohammad Syed Mahmud Hossain on Monday fixed the date after hearing on a government petition challenging the High Court order that asked the government to maintain status quo regarding publication of the gazette on the wage board.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam represented the government while advocate AF Hassan Arif stood for Newspaper Owners Association of Bangladesh (NOAB).
During the hearing, the Apex court observed that newspaper owners have no existence without journalists.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam said the writ filed by NOAB is pre-matured and it was filed for the purpose of depriving the journalists of their legitimate wages.
The bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Mohammad Ali issued the order on August 6 after hearing a petition filed by Matiur Rahman, president of NOAB on August 5.
