Husband among 2 get life-term for killing wife
A court in Jhenidah on Monday convicted two people and sentenced them to life-term in prison in a case filed for killing a housewife.
The lifers are: Ujjal Hossain, husband of the victim, and his neighbour Shukur Ali. They both hail from Kanaidanga village in Maheshpur upazila.
Additional District and Sessions Judge MG Azam pronounced the verdict in presence of the convicts in the dock.
The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each, in default, to suffer one year more in jail.
The court, however, acquitted other accused as their guilt was not proved.
According to the case statement, Ujjal used to torture his wife Monwara since their marriage in 1999.
His in-laws, however, had filed two cases against Ujjal and his family members in this regard.
On June 29, 2001, Ujjal killed Monowara in their house and hide the body.
Later, police recovered the body from Balatola cannel in Jibonnagar upazila of Chuadanga district on July 1 the same year.
Monwara's father Shahidul Islam had lodged a case against eight people with Maheshpur Police Station.
After an investigation, police submitted a chargesheet on February, 15 in 2002 accusing five people .
