6 family members among 8 killed in Cumilla road crash

Six family members among eight people were killed and another was injured as a bus rammed into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Lalmai upazila of Cumilla district on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as hotel owner Jasim Uddin,45, hailed from Ghora Moydan village in Nangalkot upazila, his mother-in-law Sakina Begum,70, wife Selina Begum,40, sons Shipon,17, and Hridoy,15, daughter Nipu Akhter,13, his hotel employee Saimun Hossain, and auto-rickshaw driver Jamal Hossain,35.

Rifat, the lone family member and survivor in the accident, was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

Lalmai Highway Police outpost in-charge Ziaul Islam confirmed the matter.

Police and witnesses said a bus of 'Tisha Paribahan' smashed the three-wheeler in Jamtali area near Bagmara Bazar around 12:15pm, leaving five killed on the spot and leaving the children critically injured.

Three of the injured died at Baghmara Health Complex.
