COX's BAZAR, Aug 16: An alleged drug peddler was killed in a 'gunfight' with law enforcers in Teknaf upazila of the district early Friday.

The drug peddler was identified as Babul, 26, son of Anwar Hossain of Hinla Pashchim Sikdarpara in the upazila, said Pradip Kumar Dash, officer-in-charge (OC) of Teknaf Police Station.
Receiving information that a gang of drug peddlers were dealing drugs in a hilly area in the upazila, a police team from Teknaf Police Station went there at around 2:30am. Sensing the presence of the police team, the drug peddlers opened fire, prompting the law enforcers to retaliate.
After the gunfight, police rescued Babul who suffered injuries with bullet, the OC said.
He was taken to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital where the doctors declared him dead, the OC added.
