50,000 dengue-affected people hospitalised so far

As many as 50,000 patients infected with dengue fever have so far been hospitalized this year, including 31,538 in the first half of August.
The number of dengue patients was 49,999 until Friday morning, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.
Meanwhile, a total of 1,719 dengue patients have been admitted to different hospitals across Bangladesh in the last 24 hours till 8am on Friday.
Dengue, a mosquito-borne virus, spreads among humans through its carrier Aedes mosquito.
In a press release issued on Friday noon, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said the number of admitted patients currently undergoing treatment in government and private hospitals combined is 7,716.
A total 40 dengue patients have died across Bangladesh from January 1 till August 16, according to their collected data.
However, the unofficial death toll is reported to be over 95.
A total of 4,015 patients are currently receiving treatment in 40 government and private hospitals in Dhaka, whereas a total of 3,701 people are undergoing treatment outside Dhaka, the release said.
Since January 1 till August 15, a total of 49,999 people have been affected by dengue.
Among those admitted, a total of 42,243 have been released from their respective hospitals and clinics after treatment.
