Bangladesh FF announces preliminary squad
Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), on Friday, announced a 25-member preliminary squad for the Preliminary Joint Qualification Round-2 for FIFA World Cup 2022 and AFC Asian Cup 2023.
Bangladesh will play its first match against the war-torn nation Afghanistan scheduled to be held on September 10 in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan.
Earlier after the grouping, Bangladesh, Oman, India and Afghanistan booters were pit in the same Group-E with World Cup host Qatar for the Preliminary Joint Qualification Round-2.
After surviving the first qualifier playing against Laos, Bangladesh confirmed the second qualifier.
In the second qualifiers, the teams of the group will have to play eight matches each. Among these, four will be home matches and four will be away matches.
Bangladesh will play its first four matches on 10th September, 10th and 15th October, 14th November in 2019 and the other four on 26th and 31st March and 4th and 9th June next year.
The red and green outfits are to play their second match against Qatar at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka on 10th October and third match against India on 15th October at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata.
A few days back, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) confirmed Dushanbe as the home venue for Afghanistan.
However, a total of 40 teams are to play the second round of the qualifiers from the continent and they were split into eight groups. A total of 12 teams, the top teams of each groups along with four best runners-up will get chance to play the third round. Besides, they will get the opportunity to play the Asian Cup in 2023.
