Nat’l Mourning Day, 44th martyrdom anniv of Bangabandhu observed

National Mourning Day and 44th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed across the country with due fervour on Thursday.
National flag was hoisted half-mast atop all government, non-government and autonomous organisations.
The day's programmes included holding Quran Khani, Milad and Doa Mahfil, discussion meeting on life and achievements of Bangabandhu, mourning procession, children's art competition, blood donation, destitute feeding, cultural function, and placing wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu.
Special prayers were also offered in all religious institutions on the day.
BARISHAL: To mark the day, Barishal District and Divisional Administration, Awami League (AL) and its front organisations, different political and socio-cultural organisations, educational institutions, Barisal Press Club, and District Judge Magistracy organised various programmes.
Former lawmaker and General Secretary (GS) of district AL Advocate Talukder Md Yunus, as chief guest, placed wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu, Shaheed Abdur Rob Serniabat and Shaheed Serniabat at Barisal Aswini Kumar Hall and led a mourning procession in the city.
Barisal University brought out a procession at Bangabandhu Udyan of the city.
District Bar Association and District and Sessions Judge and Magistracy also arranged a Doa Mahfil and a discussion meeting with District Judge Rafiqul Islam in the chair.
BHOLA: On the day, district administration and district AL organised various programmes. Wreaths were placed at the portrait of Bangabandhu.
At that time, Zila Parishad Chairman Abdul Momin Tulu, Sadar Upazila Chairman Mosharef Hossen, Bhola Municipality Mayor Md Moniruzzaman, district AL Joint Secretary Jahirul Islam Nokib, Organising Secretary Moinul Hossen Biplob, and Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Shafiqul Islam were also present.
Earlier, a mourning procession paraded the main roads of the town.
Later, a discussion meeting was held where Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Masud Alam Siddik was chief guest.
Besides, essay and painting competitions were held at different educational institutions.
CHANDPUR: To mark the day, district administration brought out a rally led by DC Mazedur Rahaman Khan, and it paraded the main roads of the town.
Later, a discussion meeting was held with DC Mazedur Rahaman Khan in the chair.
Among others, Police Super (SP) Zihadul Kabir, BPM, PPM, district AL President and Chandpur Municipality Mayor Nasir Uddin Ahmed, and district AL GS Abu Nayem Patwary Dulal were present in the programmes.
CHUADANGA: To mark the day, district administration and district AL organised different programmes.
Lawmaker of Chuadanga-1 Constituency Solaiman Haque Joarder and DC Gopal Chanrda Dash placed wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu in front of district AL office in the early morning while SP Mahbubur Rahman and former Chuadanga Municipality Mayor Reajul Islam Joarder were also present at that time.
A mourning procession was brought out from DC office premises led by Solaiman Haque Joarder, MP, and after parading the main roads of the town, it ended on local Shilpakala Academy premises.
Later, a discussion meeting was held on Shilpakala Academy premises where Solaimann Haque Joarder, MP, was present as chief guest while DC Gopal Chandra Dash was in the chair.
Among others, SP Mahbubur Rahman, Zila Parishad Chairman Shamsul Abedin, Sadar Upazila Chairman Asadul Haque Biswas, Chuadanga Municipality Mayor Obaidur Rahman, and former Mayor Reajul Islam Joarder were also present.
Local AL supplied food among the distressed people on the occasion. Special prayers were offered at all religious institutions.
GAIBANDHA: On the day, district administration organised different programmes.
A discussion on life of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman organised by district administration was also held on the premises of Central Shahid Minar in the town with Additional DC (General) Alamgir Kabir Saikat in the chair.
DC Abdul Matin addressed the function as chief discussant and Police Super Engineer Abdul Mannan Miah, Civil Surgeon Dr ABM Abu Hanif, district Awami League General Secretary Abu Bakar Siddique, and Gaibandha Municipality Mayor Advocate Shah Masud Jahangir Kabir Milon were the discussants.
The speakers said the August 15, 1975 is regarded as a shameful chapter in the history of Bengali nation as on this day the undisputed leader Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with his family members except his daughter Sheikh Hasina (now Prime Minister) and her younger sister Sheikh Rehena were brutally assassinated at his residence by a group of disgruntled army officers.
DC Abdul Matin said, "The memory of Bangabandhu is alive not only in the month of August, but also in every moment in our life. He would remain in people's heart forever as the best son of the soil for thousands of years and the greatest Bangalee of all times."
The DC also sought blessing of Almighty Allah for peace of the departed souls of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and other assassinated family members and relatives.
Later, the guests distributed prizes to the winners who participated in the art and poem reciting competition.
JOYPURHAT: To mark the day, district administration organised different programmes.
A mourning procession was brought out from Collectorate premises, and after parading main roads of the town, it ended on Shaheed Dr Abul Kashem ground.
After this, wreaths were placed on Bangabandhu's mural.
A discussion meeting was held at Zila Parishad Auditorium where district AL President Advocate Shamsul Alam Dudu, MP, was chief guest while DC Mohammad Zakir Hossen was in the chair.
Among others, District and Sessions Judge M A Rob Hawlader, SP Mohammad Salam Kabir, Zila Parishad Chairman Arifur Rahman Rocket, district AL Vice President Raja Chowdhury, Public Prosecutor Advocate Nripendanath Mandal, district Muktijoddha Sangsad Unit Commander Amzad Hossen, district AL GS and Sadar Upazila Chairman S M Solaiman Ali, and Civil Surgeon Dr Shams Uddin were present as special guests.
District Shishu Academy organised children's essay and painting competitions.
Special prayers were offered in different religious establishments.
KHULNA: To mark the day, various government, semi-government, autonomous bodies, socio-cultural and voluntary organisations and educational institutions organised various programmes.
Khulna City and District units of AL, its front organisations and different other political parties also observed various programmes marking the day.
A mourning procession was brought out from KDA New Market premises and ended at the sculptor of Bangabandhu on Khulna Betar premises in the morning.
Khulna City Corporation Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque, freedom fighters, government high officials and leaders of civil society also attended the procession. Later, they placed wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu.
Distribution of food among the destitute, screening of film show on life and works of Bangabandhu, and special prayers at all religious institutions were held.
Besides, competitions on painting, essay writing, hamd and naat and poem recitation, discussion focusing the life and works of Bangabandhu and national history was held at local educational institutions and other places.
Khulna District administration organised a discussion meeting while Directorate of Youth Development distributed prize among the winners of essay, art, and poem recitation competitions. Cheques were distributed among freedom fighters at DC office conference room.
Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md Lokman Hossain Mia addressed the meeting as chief guest while DC Md Helal Hossain was in the chair.
A book fair on Bangabandhu and liberation war was held at Umesh Chandra Public Library.
Khulna District Information Office, Islamic Foundation, KCC, Khulna WASA, Khulna Betar, Khulna University, Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, Khulna Press Club, Khulna Union of Journalists and other organisations observed similar programmes separately marking the day.
The city and district units of AL and its front organisations also observed various programmes marking the day.
Khulna Metropolitan Police and District Police took adequate security measures to maintain law and order on the day.
On the other hand, a mourning procession was brought out in the morning, and after parading main roads of Dumuria town, it ended on Upazila Parishad premises.
Later, a discussion meeting was held at Shaheed Jobayed Ali Auditorium in the morning with Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shahnaz Begum in the chair while lawmaker of Khulna-5 Constituency Narayan Chandra Chanda was present as chief guest, and Upazila Chairman Gazi Ezaz Ahmed and Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dumuria Police Station (PS) Md Aminul Islam Biplob were present as special guests.
MAGURA: On the day, a mourning procession organised by local administration paraded the main roads of the town and ended at martyrs' memorial in Nomani Maidan of the town where local lawmakers, freedom fighters, government officials and people from different walks of life paid tribute through placing wreaths to the portrait of Bangabandhu.
After placing wreaths, they stood in solemn silence for one minute as a mark of profound respect to the memories of Bangabandhu and other martyrs of August 15.
Latter, a discussion meeting was also held at the Asaduzzaman Auditorium with DC Ali Akbar in the chair where lawmaker of Magura-1 Constituency Advocate Saifuzzaman Shikhor spoke as chief guest and lawmaker of Magura-2 Constituency Advocate Shri Biren Shikder was the main speaker and Secretary to the Primary and Mass Education Ministry Akram-al-Hossain addressed as chief discussant. 
The discussion was addressed, among others, by SP Khan Mohammad Rezoan, CS Dr Prodip Kumar Saha, district AL President Alhaz Tanjel Hossain Khan and Magura Municipality Mayor Khurshid Haidar Tutul.
Besides, discussion meeting, milad mahfil and destitute feeding were also held.
MEHERPUR: To mark the day, district administration organised different programmes.
The day's programmes began with hoisting national flag at half-mast atop all government, semi-government, autonomous and private buildings in the morning.
A mourning procession led by DC Ataul Gani was brought out in the town from DC office premises, and after parading the main roads of the town, it ended at Shahid Dr Shamsuzzoha Park.
After the end of the procession, floral wreaths were placed at the mural of Bangabandhu.
Later, a discussion meeting on the life of Bangabandhu was held with DC Ataul Gani in the chair.
Among others, Zila Parishad Chairman Alhaz Golam Rasul, SP S M Murad Ali, Meherpur Municipality Mayor Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, Sadar Upazila Chairman Yarul Islam, and District AL Liberation War Affairs Secretary Ataul Hakim were present as special guests.
District Information Office screened documentary films 'Chironjib Bangabandhu', 'Swadhinota Amar Swadhinota' and 'Bangabandhu: Bangladesh' on Government Boys School premises.
The meeting was addressed, among others, by Upazila Vice Chairman Gazi Abdul Halim, Vice Chairwoman Sharmin Ruma Pervin, and Upazila Primary Education Officer GM Alamgir Kabir.
Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Md Mosaddek Hossen conducted the programme.
NAOGAON: To mark the day, wreaths were placed on the portrait of Bangabandhu on Sadar Upazila Parishad premises.
Later, a mourning procession led by DC Md Harun-or-Rashid was brought out from Upazila Parishad premises, and after parading main roads of the town, it ended at the same place.
Later, a discussion meeting was held where DC Md Harun-or-Rashid was in the chair while lawmaker of Sadar Constituency Barrister Nizam Uddin Jalil John was chief guest.
Among others, Zila Parishad Chairman Advocate AKM Fazle Rabbi, SP Md Iqbal Hossen, PPM, Naogaon Medical College Principal Dr Md Abdul Bari, Naogaon Hospital Caretaker Dr Rawshan Ara, Additional DC Md Mahbubur Rahman, Roads and Highways Department Executive Engineer Md Hamidul Haque, and Sadar Upazila Chairman Alhaz Rafiqul Islam were also present.
On the other hand, Porsha Upazila Administration brought out a mourning procession and placed wreaths on the portrait of Bangabandhu in the morning.
Later, a discussion meeting was held with UNO Nazmul Hamid Reza in the chair while Upazila Parishad Chairman Principal Shah Manjur Morshed Chowdhury was chief guest.
Among others, Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Sohrab Hossen, Upazila Vice Chairman Kazibul Islam, upazila AL GS Mofazzal Hossen, Agriculture Officer Mahfuz Alam, Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Ibne Imam, Engineer of Local Government Engineering Department Mahfuzar Rahman, Porsha PS OC Shahinur Rahman, Muktijoddha Commander Yunus Ali, and Nitpur Union Parishad Chairman Abul Kalam Shah were also present.
PABNA: On the day, different political, socio-cultural and professional organisations arranged various programmes. 
The day's programmes included hoisting of national flag half-mast atop all public and private buildings, placing of wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu, Quran Khani, Milad Mahfil, discussion meetings, seminar, blood donation programme, photo exhibition and destitute feeding.
Pabna District Administration brought out a mourning procession from Muktijoddha Market, and it paraded the main roads of the town.
Earlier in the morning, Zila Parishad Chairman Rezaul Rahim Lal, DC Md Kabir Mahmud, SP Sheikh Rafiqul Islam, BPM, PPM, and others paid homage to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
District AL hoisted national and party flags half-mast atop party office.
PANCHAGARH: To mark the day, district administration, district AL, and different socio-cultural and professional organisations arranged different programmes.
The daylong programmes included hoisting of national flag at half-mast atop all government, semi-government, autonomous, private buildings and institutions after sunrise, hoisting of black flags and wearing of black badges.
Government officials, AL leaders and its associate bodies placed wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu on Circuit House premises and observed a one-minute silence before bringing out mourning procession.
Discussions on the life and works of Bangabandhu were arranged in educational institutions and special prayers were offered at religious institutions.
District Information Office screened documentary films, like 'Chironjib Bangabandhu', 'Osomapta Mohakabbyo', 'Amader Bangabandhu', 'Swadhinota Amar Swadhinota' and 'Swadhinota Amader Ki Kore Halo' and feature film 'Guerrilla' at open places all over the district.
PIROJPUR: To mark the day, district administration, political parties, students', cultural and socio-economic organisations and NGOs organised different programmes. 
In the morning, floral tribute was offered at the portrait of Bangabandhu at Mujub Chattar in the town.
Later, a mourning procession paraded the main roads of the town and ended on local Shilpakala Academy premises.
A discussion meeting organised by district administration was held where DC Abu Ali Md Shazzad Hossain was in the chair.
Among others, SP Md Haiatul Islam Khan, district AL President AKMA Awal, Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Mujibur Rahman Khaleque, and district AL GS Advocate MA Hakim Hawlader were also present.
RAJBARI: To mark the day, district AL and DC office arranged different programmes.
Two mourning processions, separately led by lawmaker of Rajbari-1 Constituency Kazi Keramot Ali and DC Dilshad Begum paraded the main roads of the town.
Later, separate discussion meetings were held at district AL office and DC office premises.
With DC Dilshad Begum in the chair, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Kazi Keramot Ali, MP, SP Mizanur Rahman, BPM, Zila Parishad Chairman Fakir Abdul Jabber, and Rajbari Municipality Mayor Mohammad Ali Chowdhury.
Wreaths were placed at the sculpture of Bangabandhu on DC office premises.
District AL also organised a discussion meeting and a milad and doa mahfil on party office premises.
