3 killed in boat capsize in 2 dists

Three persons were killed in separate boat capsizes in two districts- Habiganj and Sirajganj, on Wednesday.  
HABIGANJ: Two sexagenarians died as a boat capsized in the Kasti River in Madhabpur Upazila of the district on Wednesday evening.
The deceased were identified as Syeda Banu, and Sayera Banu, hailed from Nasirnagar Upazila of Bhramanbaria District.
Witnesses said a boat overloaded with passengers sank in the Kasti River when it was heading to Nasirnagar from Madhabpur's Bulla area around 6:00 pm.
In the incident, Syeda and Sayera went missing in the river while others managed to swim the shore.

On information, fire service and civil defence personnel conducted rescue operation and recovered the women's bodies around 8:00 pm, said KM Azmiruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Madhabpur Police Station.
However, the bodies were handed over to the victims' families.
SIRAJGANJ: A woman died and two others went missing as a boat capsized in the Jamuna River in Kazipur Upazila of the district on Wednesday afternoon.
Besides, six people, who received injuries in the boat capsize, were admitted to hospital.

Deceased Renu Begum, 55, hailed from Atra Village in Sharishabari Upazila of Jamalpur District.
The missing are Javed Ali Tarafder, 62, husband of deceased Renu, and his co-villager and police member Belal Hossain.
Chairman of Mansur Nagar Union Parishad Abdur Razzak said a boat was heading towards Godarbag Village in Kazipur Upazila from Sharishabari Upazila of Jamalpur. At one stage, the boat capsized in Chhinar Char area in Kazipur due to strong current.

Soon after the incident, locals started rescue operation and recovered the body of Renu and rescued six injured.

Kazipur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Zahid Hasan Siddiqui said two people, including a cop, remained missing in the boat capsize.
